I am currently doing my field experiences at Bell's Hill Elementary School. One of my field experiences is with a kindergarten student "My Book Buddy." I meet with her every Wednesday for an hour from 10:00-11:00 a.m. I help her with sight words, blending sounds, rhyming words and to write her own sentences. She is a very bright, and enthusiastic little girl and I really enjoy working with her. Both her and I are eager to meet every Wednesday to learn more things.
I am also doing another field experience at Bell;s Hill Elementary. This is to tutor a 4th grade student in Math. I see him every Thursday for an hour from 1:20 -2:20 p.m. I am going some math strategies to help him get ready for Math STAAR. I really enjoy meeting with him because he is a English Language Learner so one of his obstacles in learning is the language barrier, but I know he will do an awesome job in his tests because he has a strong spirit and is willing to learn every day. He says he wants to graduate in order to have a better life for him and his entire family.
Also, at Bell's Hill Elementary School I did an assessment on a Pre-Kindergarten student for my Kinesiology class. The assessment involved assessing a child on: throwing, catching, striking, jumping and catching. I had to see which level the child is in. The experience was very fun and exciting because I got to be involved with the student in actually doing some of the exercises first in order for the student to feel comfortable and then do them herself.
In one of my Literature classes I have an assignment and constists on a 40 book challenge. I am to read ten books at a time and then write a summary about each. At first I thought I was not going to be able to make it, but now I can not wait to read my next set. In my other Literature class I also had to do a literacy map of books that influenced my life in reading. The map included a chat, a video and write a summary of each. I enjoyed doing both of these lessons.
This will be my new prayer as I start my new chapter in my life of teaching and I will cherish it always.
